Sleep stages not working - Does A-Fib play a role?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I, like many others, am not having success with my new Sense not recording sleep stages.  I've searched for other posts and read help articles.  Nothing mentions atrial fibrillation with respect to these device features.

I get a notification that says "Last night: No Data" for Breathing Rate (BR), Heart Rate Variability (HRV), and Skin Temperature.  It records Oxygen saturation (SpO2) though.  It's tracking the basic sleep patterns (i.e. time asleep, times awake, times restless, minutes awake / restless).

The more advanced sleep tracking is one of the features that I'm particularly looking for in the Sense, so I'd very much like to get it working.  I've read lots of other posts, all the replies from customer service say the same thing.  Make sure the battery is charged enough, restart the device, update the app, update the firmware, wear it properly.  The FAQ that addresses the question, "Why don't I get sleep stages today?" states that:

"If you slept in a position that prevented your device from getting a consistent heart-rate [...]"

My Questions

  1. What sleep positions prevent the device from getting consistent a consistent heart-rate?
  2. Does atrial fibrillation (A-Fib) impact the ability of the device to gather the data it needs for these advanced sleep features?

Thanks in Advance for your helpful answers.

Hi, It was detecting my sleep stages in November- December even though I had the bad episodes of AFib. Now it gives me only simplified records of sleeping which shows me that it is detecting my sleep but not sleeping stages, otherwise it would not show that I am sleeping at all. That’s my vision. If sense is very sensitive to sleeping qualities then Fitbit should put a disclaimer- only for perfect people. But thank you anyway. I think Fitbit problems are much dipper.

When you look at the simple sleep chart for the night, does fitbit give you a reason for not seeing stages?

For me it doesn’t give a reason it just leads me to the help section of which everything I have tried & checked daily it feels 😔

I have just had two nights where my continual sleep was long enough and should have been displayed as stages. Non of the health metrics are working apart from steps and bpm. Sometimes SPo2 records. With how it’s going I’m not sure I trust the bpm reading either. I was excited to get it and it was working fine now just crap. My husband got his same time as me and it’s  working fine. I have trouble shooted and still no good.

It says the same every time” cannot get a consistent heart rate reading “. But if you check a heart rate graphs it shows that it gets my heart rate consistently , every minute, day and night.

I also have Afib, which is why I got the Sense in December. It was working flawlessly, but for the past 7 days shows me "No data" for HRV and BR; I had one day where it did not record sleep stages. Also, lately on the device itself. the ECG keeps showing "Inconclusive", could'nt get a good reading. I have done all the usual troubleshooting, with no fix. Finally today chatted with Fitbit support in the Philippines, she verified that my Sense was tracking sleep, but said that have received reports about HRV and BR not working and are working on a "resolution". They said to keep making sure app is up to date. I certainly hope it's fixed soon.

Hi. Has anyone’s app/sleep tracker just randomly started working again? Mine has all of a sudden tracked for the last 3 nights. Don’t want to jinx it, but curious to see if other’s devices have done the same, or whether it’s just a fluke. I have an open case with support and don’t want to assume it’s resolved yet.

thanks

Mandy

You are very lucky. Unfortunately I don’t have any sleep stages in April. Got only once on April 4🥵

@LarisaAR it seems I jinxed it! No sleep stages tracking last night. It’s a pointless expensive fashion accessory (that I’m beginning to dislike very much!)

Agree. I liked it so much when I bought it in November. It was working flawlessly for 2 months. Not anymore. Highly disappointed and frustrated.

@LarisaAR This is why I believe it’s a bigger Fitbit issue. I had a different device at the time and it worked 100% every day until February. Then just stopped. I ended up with a sense as an alternative and it’s just the same. Shocking! Plus, it’s causing more stress with a device that’s designed for promoting well being!

I have chronic a-fib and have had it for years and I take medication for it. A lot of the fancy features on my Sense Fitbit including sleep stages will not work and I am very suspicious that my chronic a-fib is the reason why But I have yet to get a confirmation from anyone that really knows.
