Spike in steps over 15min span sense

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Yesterday I had a spike of 3,000 steps over a 15-minute span and I was sleeping, which it also tracked. My husband too at around the same time, but an increase of 13k steps over 15 mins. Anyone else?

@CpJ678 Welcome to the Fitbit community.

I usually only get only a dozen or so extra steps at most overnight.

Do either or both of you have MobileTrack setup on the Fitbit app to track steps with your phone? If yes, I believe it tends to sync overnight. And that has caused spikes in step counts.

Open the Fitbit app, tap your account icon in the top left, check if you have MobileTrack as a device. If you do, tap it and then tap the trash :wastebasket:️ in the top right.

I have not experienced any additional steps while sleeping.

Fitbit devices use a 3-axis accelerometer to count your steps. This sensor also allows your device to determine the frequency, duration, intensity, and patterns of your movement.

The spikes on my Charge5 (problem did not occur with Charge2) have been affecting steps, miles, and calories, but not heart rate.

Has happened:

today 4/16 (7200 steps around 2am),

two days ago 4/14 (12k steps around 1am),

4/29 (40k steps around 10pm),

4/18 (68k steps around 8:30pm),

3/4 (~7000 steps around 1am), and

1/28 (54k steps around 3pm).

(hmmm, this kinda looks like two problems rather than one, now that I have actual data in front of me.)

This makes it really difficult to be able to see progress over time, since weekly and monthly averages are impacted.

Since a similar thread mentioned some other app, I'll say that I also wear an oura ring, and have both oura and fitbit reporting to google fit. MobileTrack is paired, so I'm going to try unpairing it...I don't recall if it existed when I was wearing the Charge2 or not.
