Step accuracy between two Fitbit Sense

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I am in my early 70s & my wife is in her mid-50s. We both have the Sense & we're the same height. Sensitivity on both is set to NORMAL. That said, I show a lot more steps than her even when we're together all day. When I say my steps are higher, I'm posting significantly higher, e.g., I might be at 7000 steps & she might be at 5000. Is the fitbit giving me more steps due to my age?

@ArmySciCorp There is so many calculations to be done. The Sense looks at the swing of your arms/stride and thru the sensors (accelerometer gyroscope GPS heartbeat) it trying to calculate steps. Is it accurate I would say using the Sense it is close but no it is not a medical grade device. So YMMV depending on all of those factors. Compared to my old Ionic it was close as well but each product has its own tolerance and no two devices are the same .

Fitbit Ionic 72.1.15 (recalled), Fitbit Sense 128.6.17 and Pixel Watch 2 BP1A.250305.019.W3, March 2025.

Hi @ArmySciCorp  sometimes when I walk, I put my hands in my pocket or I'm holding something in my hand. If your wife isn't moving the hand that the Fitbit is on, that could account for some lost steps. In the past, I wondered why people walking were moving their hands back and forth so vigorously, but now I know. If I don't move my hands much, those steps aren't being recognized. You might want to experiment on your next walk.

Hi @ArmySciCorp - there can be an issue of daily activity which is different. As the watch measures hand movements you may accumulate more, especially if the dominant hand has not been set right or you do more arm movements.

During walking together the watches should match steps pretty closely if your strides are the same.

To compare properly try switching watches for a day, though this will mess with your health monitoring.
