Hi!
I'm trying to trade in my FB for another device and it has to be cleared of all personal data. I did the factory reset with the buttons and all seemed fine until I got this big red X with the Data not cleared, sync and try again message. I tried to sync from the app - doesn't work. Turned phone on and off, BT on and off, tried to disconnect device from my account, etc. Nothing works. I transferred my FB over to Google, don't know if that makes a difference, but it was at FB's suggestion.

Thanks for letting me know about this situation regarding transferring your Fitbit to another device and for the steps taken to solve it. We appreciate your post since these steps will help other users from the community solve any related situation. Since you are trying to set up the watch, my best recommendation will be to wait a moment and see if the display changes from an X to the clock face. If possible, try to force sync the watch.
Also, the only thing that will change now that you transfer to Google login is that you will need to use your Google Mail to access your Fitbit account.
