When I lift my wrist to check heart rate during exercise, it does not go on on anymore.

You probably have Screen Wake turned off. Look for it in Settings. If not that, check if you are in Sleep Mode.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Swipe left edge to the right on the watch to go to Quick settings and put on the wrist movement.

Alternatively in the Fitbit App, click on profile photo and then device photo and turn on Quick view.
