Here is information that might help someone else having the problem I had with the button. A search for "button" shows that many Sense users have problems similar to mine.
The fix for me was to find the exact location to push. Since this problem was such a pain for me, I post my exact solution that worked for me here.
(Edit: the system replaced my word.)
Since there was no button sticking out, I thought the button was the vertical mark on the side of the frame. Wrong. Actually, the "button" is the flush horizontal bar that is below that mark. You "push the button" by squeezing the side of the watch near that horizontal bar. My problem was that I held my thumb too near the front of the watch.
It works best for me by pushing slightly off center. By "off center" I mean when you look at the bar straight-on, the sensitive place is at the left end of the bar. Equivalently, when you are looking directly at the clock-face the sensitive place is upper end of the bar.
I don't have to push very hard on the sensitive location. I used the vibration that happens with a successful push to locate the spot exactly.

Hi @stanhilliard.
Thanks for sharing your experience, hopefully it will help others who are having a similar problem. I think it's a case of getting used to it, as I can't really say I have any issues with the button myself.
Another tip to remember is you can also swipe from the left side of the screen (- - - - - - - >) to go back, although this will only take you back one screen at a time.
