Why Doesn't My Sense Auto-Sync Consistently?

I have a clock face that has an indicator that tells me if I'm connected to my phone. A little dot turns green if connected and red if not connected.

If I stay within about 20 or 30 feet of my phone, my watch consistently stays connected to my phone. If I go beyond that distance, it disconnects. When I return near my phone, about half the time, the watch and phone reconnect automatically. But about half the time, they don't reconnect automatically. When they don't reconnect, I wake up my phone and open my Fitbit app, which triggers it to resync to my watch. Why doesn't it resync automatically all the time? Is there something I can do to make it reconnect more consistently?

Hi @DavidZz - patience is often the answer.

If the Fitbit App and Bluetooth are allowed to run in background on your phone it should sync automatically, but not necessarily immediately.

It can also depend on how frequently the Bluetooth scan is operated on your phone (to detect when a device comes into range).

Thanks, Guy.

It's not a matter of patience.  It gets stuck somehow.  Even when I'm 5 feet away, it'll go 30 minutes, an hour or forever sometimes unless I manually prompt it to resync.

I'm thinking of switching from an iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy S21.  Do you think that phone will auto-sync more or less consistently or about the same as the iPhone?

I switched from an iPhone 13 to a Samsung Galaxy S21 and I'm happy to report that the S21 has better Bluetooth performance in the following ways.

1) Stays connected just a bit farther away - the difference is not huge, but I noticed that when I walk around my condo, the S21 loses the connection with my Sense less often.

2) Reconnects more consistently - When I lose connection due to walking outside the range, the S21 reconnects more consistently. I don't have to manually reconnect as often.

The second item is the most important and the S21 is clearly superior. Overall, the S21's Bluetooth performance is better in every way.
