Will the current fitbit sense get the new wear OS 3 released by Google recently? Since sense being the high end model of fitbit I would expect it get the update and longer support. Anyone else want to see the new wear OS on sense
Moderator Edit: Clarified subject
Wear OS needs a lot of ram to have that run smoothly. Sense would need to have at least 1GB of ram minimum. I'm thinking Fitbit may introduce a new watch all together with Wear OS later on vs updating their current watches.
The question would be how long they will support the software. Moving forward if all of the fitbit smartwatches comes with wearos then there would have 2 OS's. Wondering what if they stop adding new features to this device as it would be difficult to manage and create apps for new features on both operating systems. I hope they don't ditch us
hopefully. read an article this week that said Wear OS would indeed be coming to certain Fitbit devices.
Dont have link atm but evidently it is being merged so Wear watches and fitbit features will be combined.
hopefully sooner than later. hoping Google's advanced software programing solves a lot of issues with FB firmware
Best AnswerI hope so too. Fitbit OS itself lags time to time, not sure how it will manage if it is coming
Best AnswerSafe to say the Sense will not get WearOS. The chipset can barely handle the Fitbit OS as is so no chance it would be able to handle WearOS. Likely a new Fitbit model coming out in the next 3-6 months would support the new OS - and expect that to be really expensive. I recall Fitbit saying it would be on new "premium devices" which translates to "expensive."
As for support on the current Sense - I would expect it will be supported for a little while longer but once the new premium devices launch it won't likely get any new features or improvements and maybe (emphasive maybe) bug fixes that are vague and questionable.
FitBit OS is pretty unoptimised and tends to lag a lot regardless. The Sense has more than enough RAM on board, but maybe the chipset would struggle, though I doubt it. The issue will be more Google not wanting to update the old watches to run WearOS because they can sell anyone that wants WearOS a new watch. Maps, which is quite resource hungry, runs fine on Fitbit OS on a Sense (noting this is based on Here! maps, not Google as such). Voice Assistant also runs fine on it. Is it really necessary to update to WearOS?
Guess it depends what you want 🙂
Best AnswerNo I wouldn't want Wear OS on the Sense, the performance (even if it could run it) and battery life would be unbearable.
Google has revealed the Pixel watch which will run Wear OS and have Fitbit integration. So if this is what you are looking, I think this will be the device for you. Fitbit have made no indication that any of their future devices will run Wear OS, so I guess we will have to wait and see.
I have seen that, and honestly I would get a Sense 2 instead of a Pixel Watch if I was replacing my sense. Fitbit still has better health and fitness options.
