Hi - Does anyone know when the ECG app will be available in New Zealand?    I messaged Fitbit last night but while they sent a reply it didn't answer the question.   Thanks

I don't think there will be a definitive answer to this. The online store says:

"FDA review of ECG app pending; only available in U.S. upon clearance. Availability outside the U.S. pending applicable regulatory clearances"

So, it depends if / when approval is obtained in New Zealand.

Considering no real traction with the apple watch in Australia I am not really hopeful. noted that on their page the Fitbit page it doesn't appear to be referenced in spec sheet.

@Gremball , I believe that at launch the ECG feature will not be available anywhere, even In the US, as FDA approval is still stated as “pending“. As for other countries, given the vagueness of the wording I don’t think it is even clear whether Fitbit has even yet started the process of regulatory approval.  Agree with @niknaksdaman that outside the US it doesn’t sound very hopeful.

Sense, Charge 5, Inspire 2; iOS and Android

The ECG will, for legal reasons, only be available in countries after their regulatory agencies give approval.

I would think the first step in the approval process is for Fitbit to apply in each country. This may take some time

Just revisiting this same question.  It's now 13th November in NZ and still no ECG app (or Google).  Unfortunately, I was sold the Fitbit Sense on a white lie from JB HiFi when I purchased the Fitbit Sense.  I was advised the ECG app was already available.  This proved to be incorrect upon purchasing and updating the Sense.

If possible, Fitbit, can us New Zealanders get an estimated date of arrival of this ECG feature. It's the primary reason I upgraded from my existing Fitbit Blaze to the Sense.

Best Answer

I'm sorry that JB HiFi, an unrelated to Fitbit company, misrepresented Fitbit. If interested in getting an answer from Fitbit, asking Fitbit might be better then asking Fitbit users.

Yes several countries have given Fitbit go for ECG, I'm not sure if there are set dates for when the other countries will give Fitbit the green light.

I did the same. I bought the Sense on the understanding that the ECG function worked here in New Zealand. I am so disappointed that it doesn't and feel ripped off with the mis-leading marketing.

Just had a heart scare and thought the ecg app would be able to assist, no bloody luck!

January 12th. Still no ECG app in NZ.  Disappointing Fitbit. 4 months since purchase and still absent is a key feature on this health watch.

Best Answer

Sorry @Mister_JJ but Fitbit doesn't have any control over the testing and certification process in NZ.

Could you confirm which customer support company I should ask for an expected date of delivery in NZ of the ECG feature for the Sense?  Fitbit Customer Support or New Zealand Government Customer Support?

Fitbit needs to do better.

@Mister_JJ I'm not in NZ but a quick Google brings up several lists of requlators .

The decision is up to NZ, not Fitbit.

Surely it is on the company (Fitbit) who provide the customer a product (Sense ECG) to follow up with the agency (Govt) who approve it and not rely on the Fitbit customer to do the groundwork.

The right answer for a positive customer experience from Fitbit would be that they would follow up on the approval progress and respond to their customers in a timely manner.

The best Fitbit could do is give the company a few watches to test. The actual tests are trails Ted by the government, not Fitbit.

Harvey Norman are advertising it as having the ECG heart monitor too which is the reason I brought it as I have a health condition. Feeling very disappointed too.

Same here. HarveyNorman advertised it as having a ECG app installed. I bought it as I have hear Dfib so thought it may help me.

Google assistant isn't working for me either. Everyone else in NZ have this same issue?
