 Hi,

I like the way Fitbit now shows sleep analysis and it's results are starting to make a bit more sense to me. I'm often tired (body and mind), and can be irritable and have suffered from depression for years. I've noticed I have above average length of time for R.E.M. Sleep, which has been connected to depression and irratibility (see above) I don't feel like I have much deep sleep I think the above example was a good night for deep sleep tbh.

Does anyone have any recommendations for getting a bit more deep sleep and a little less R.E.M.? (As much as I love being able to recall many dreams each night sometimes I just need a proper rest)

I will go back to using my calming app before bed. Thanks for the reminder!

Just an observation on accuracy of Fitbit. I’ve had depression 33 years. I recently bought a Dreem 2 headband for sleep stage estimation using mainly EEG, but also movement and heart rate, and it always shows 35-50% REM sleep. In contrast, the Charge 3 I tried for 2 of the same nights only gave about 3% REM

Well you must have been in for the sleep study because something was not right.  My Charge 2 says I'm in REM for 32% on average when the range for my age is 19%.  I'm stealing from the 'awake' category which I can't imagine is a bad thing.

Everyone should keep in mind that Fitbit has no way of actually detecting REM sleep. What the Fitbit app displays is a guestimate based on the analysis of historical sleep study data patterns. It should be taken with a huge grain of salt.

My REM is many time 34-35% and most nights 30+ - lowest will be around 26. Last night I had 3h11min of REM sleep, My dreams are so incredibly vivid I remember the smallest of details. Everything about my surroundings, to roads taken in my dream to get somewhere and details inside houses. (How do I attach a snapshot here? Lol - I’m on my phone).

  • Sorry but I’ll have to agree with your theory. My job as a horse rider is 8 hours of being active, sometimes even longer. And I have an average of 28% R.E.M sleep and struggle to get 12% of deep sleep...
