From my personal experience, this is how I regulate my sleep -
What I struggle with still at times is my inability to prioritize a sleeping schedule as I would eating or training schedule. With a 93% sleep efficiency I have room to improve. My Flex device seems to be accurately measuring my sleeping patters as of now. It is one (Sleep Feature) of my favorite features of Fitbit Flex.

I've never slept a lot. However, once I had my broken nose corrected, I sleep better. The main issue I think I have is I think about all the stuff I have to do. It keeps me up and I can't let somethings go. Its really tough, sometimes the thoughts will invade my dreams even.
I used to just have a cocktail to go to sleep, but now that doesn't even work.

93% sleep efficiency is awesome 🙂 I get usually 60something percent sleep efficiency XD
Insomnia (legitimate insomnia...not just sleeping all day one day and finding it hard to fall asleep that night ;)) does run in my medical history, with patches of extreme sleep deprivation. Right now, I probably get - gross sleep time - of under 5 hours every single day, with Fitbit saying my actual sleep time is around 3 hours and 30 minutes. Not good, and I know it's not good because I actually feel a tad wired! I'm restless-tired. Jittery, almost manic when I don't sleep, but my body and eyes are tired/ fatigued. Mostly it's my mind keeping me up. XD

If you fear the consequences of getting hurt while running, I would advise doing a short period of running, and
then each time you run, run a little longer, and that way your body can sink in to intense running.
that is what I was doing to prepare for a 5K, and I got 22:11!
