887 calories burned after a 4 mile walk?

Hi Everyone,

i am rather new to fit bit and I've recently purchased the surge.  I am a little concerned that the calories burned is inaccurate and this is the most vital piece of data for me as I'm trying to lose weight. My first bit of exercise was last night walking 4 miles in one hour, I am 220lbs, male and usually very inactive. During this workout it states I have burned 887 calories!! I wish this was true but I highly doubt this after checking various online calculators.  HELP!

It all depends on your heart rate, I do a 10k hike on rough ground and can clock that sort of burn. I have noticed that as I lost weight and increased cardio fitness the burn reduced.

Yep, if you were pushing 155 average in the cardio zone that burn seems accurate to me. That's a good thing means your heart is working hard, good luck with the weight loss

mine is reading high as well (  1100 cal in a 90 minutes walk ) and it concerns me for the same reason as you George. i too checked various  online calculators and this seem way to high for  walking . ""My guess is the heart rate monitor is reading way to high"" ??? to burn that amount of calories ?

It all depends on your heart rate. I work out on my lunch breaks. I run for 15 min and do weights for about 40 min. My average bpm is 105 and I burn roughly 400 calories. Each person is different.

i know this is just a guide and everyone different but to burn 887 calories in a hour walking  seems high, mine seems to run high on my calories burned in a day. i would like it to be right because I've started a food diary and knowing what goes in and out is important to me
