I had the exact same issue with my Surge and I contacted customer support and they replaced it no problem. The issue I have is that the issue is now re-occuring with my second Surge. Fortunately I am still within the warrantly period, however given this appears to occur consistently (within about 6 months for me) I am reasonably confident that the third one will eventually experience the same issue.
The simple fact is there appears to be a significant design flaw with the Surge band. Given that it is not replaceable this puts a real negative on the Surge.
