Bike ride on surge pausing whilst on a stop

I'm new to Fitbit on the first ride I discovered how to pause whilst taking a drinking stop, but today on my second ride the stop was for longer and the Pause stopped and finished the ride. Two questions is there a way to get the Fitbit to recognise a pause/ stop without having to press pause and if not how can I get round a longer stop finishing a pause and completing the ride before I've finished the whole route. today only way round it seems to be to start a new ride as I started off again but then this prevents you getting an accurate overall mph. I'm using it alongside strava at the moment to compare accuracy and it's pretty spot on but I need it to do what strava does and recognise your stops and pause, then restart when you start moving , as ideally I would like to put all my rides on strava with my heart rate, but at the moment I'm having to use both but then both record on strava which I don't want.

Welcome aboard to our community @Knightsb. When you start an activity with your Fitbit Surge, it will give you the option to pause your exercise as you mentioned. It wont matter how many time you do this as long you don't press the stop button in the upper right corner. Also keep in mind that the tracker will automatically stopped your exercise after 15 or 20 minutes in pause so if the pause is longer than this, the tracker will finish your ride.

Unfortunately there is no way it recognized your pauses automatically or make longer the time it stopped your exercise. Although there is an idea in our Feature Request board that is quite popular, requesting the same function. Perhaps is of your interest, so here is the link for you to share your comments and add your vote and make more popular the idea.

Hope this helps a little and see ya around my friend. Robot wink

Today and yesterday this happened to me, but it was a lot shorter than 15 minutes, mpre like 5 or 6.
But why does it do this. If I pause then I want to restart

Hmmmm... this is strange. I'd recommend restarting your Surge by doing these steps:

  1. Press and hold the Home and Select buttons (left and bottom right) on your Fitbit Surge for 10 to 15 seconds, until you see the screen flash or start to dim.
  2. Let go of the buttons.
  3. After your screen turns completely off, wait 10 seconds and press the Home button to turn your Surge back on.

Once you've done this, test your tracker again to see if your Surge works as it should when using the Pause option. Keep me posted @Loluke66
