Remember, your device is also counting the calories you burn every day just staying alive (breathing, digesting, etc). This can be around 1.5 to 2k per day based on your height and weight. I was confused at the start because my surge was reading over 500 calories burned when I woke up in the am. I'm 6ft, 200#, and with a 20,000 step day ( also showing over 300 active minutes) I end up with 4700 calories burned. Of that total, 3000 are from some type of exertion, the other 1700 I believe are what my body burns on its own. Emujo

Hi @Pum! Please receive a warm welcome to the Fitbit Family! @Emujo It's great to see you participating in our Community! Woman Very Happy

I'm glad to know that your using Fitbit Surge as a helper to get your calories for the day! As @Emujo said, Fitbit tracker are amazing in regards to give you stats for day. Calories burned are calculated by your Fitbit Account and transferred to your tracker so, even if you're not moving still you will get the amount of calories your burning during that time.

If you check your Fitbit.com Dashboard under the section Log > Activity > Calories; and check those calories you will notice that it is not actually tracking but is calculating calories burned by body for those days. Smiley Very Happy

For example, this graph is showing the time line of my calories for this day, as you can see from 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM there is an specific amount of calories calculated throughout the day (the tiny lines), also from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM you will see the large lines that shows calories burned by exercising. Robot wink
