Cycling calories incorrect.

Hi all,

I've seen a lot of posts about how calories are worked out, but I haven't found anything which quite covers my problem.

Went for a 60 min/15 mile cycle today and noticed that the fitbit app was showing it twice. I assume one of these is the actual gps tracked cycle and the other is the surge automatically picking up that I was cycling. Not a huge issue, turned of the auto detect for cycling and deleted the additional cycle. However, I then noticed that the gps cycle was showing as only 320 calories used, when the auto one was 600. Also, the gps data that was automatically sent to my strava account showed a more realistic 600 calories.

I then tried manually adding a 15 mile/60 minute cycle and fitbit added this as ~600 calories.

So was this issue just because I had auto detect enabled and manually started a cycle exercise or am I doing somethibg else wrong? (Haven't got the energy to have another cycle yet to see if switching off auto detect has made a difference!)

As far as I know the automatic function is disabled when a manual exercise is in progress. It's more likely a glitch on the server side presenting two different windows onto the same data.

When this sort of thing has come up before there are reports that deleting one record actually wiped out both so be careful how you proceed.

Thanks Mike.

I guess I'll have another cycle and see what happens! Would like to get it working properly before I go for a good length ride thouh.
