Distance on treadmil

I'm training for another marathon. Training on the treadmil some days. I ran 1 mile in 8 minutes m, but the Surge said I only ran .64 of a mile. Also, apparently I only burned 40 calories during that mile run. Why is the caloric burn so inaccurate? What can I do to make sure it's close to accurate?

Have you set your stride for the spewed ypu rub at on the treadmill?  Anytime the running speed changes, so does the stride. Also holding on to the bars will affect the Fitbids ability to count your steps,  as well as can cause back, knee, ankle damage, and will reduce the calories burnt.
