Export steps/cadence from GPS activities to Strava and TCX file

The Fitbit starting point was monitoring steps, it seems strange that you do not export steps data. I get better from my Garmin device when I sync it to Strava

Hi @dude! Thanks for the clarification! Sorry I edited the subject of your originally post, we try to keep only the main idea so other users can find it in a more effective way! If you have a better idea for your subject just change it, it's okay! You don't need to place a "edit note"! I hope the one that I left this time is okay for you! Smiley Happy

What you're suggesting is not an option that we have for Fitbit Surge at this moment! As you know we have a Feature Suggestion board, where you can raise your voice to request this type of features! Thanks for sharing and keep posting your comments around!

Till next time, let me know if you need anything else! Woman Happy

Nice to see that you're digging into the Forums @dudeCat Happy

With Fitbit you have the option to export Activity data such as steps, distance, floors, total calories burned, calories burned from activity, sedentary minutes, active minutes, and some other body and sleep stats. The data available depends on which type of tracker you have. Is this what you need?

Please let me know if you  have any doubt about this option.

Enjoy your day! Woman Happy

I think you changed my subject line where I explicitly mentioned export of steps data from Surge. You have not clarified the subject, you have obfuscated it.

I have a Surge, it allows individual activities to be exported as a TCX file. That file contains GPS points but no steps data so I cannot see how stride length or rate changes during my run.

Best Answer

you cannot export, that's not registered

distance is calculated with 2 methods

without GPS : distance = steps number * stride length

with GPS : steps number = distance / stride length

You miss my point. I am not asking how it calculates steps, I am asking if the export of TCX files can be changed to export steps in addition to GPS points.

For example this is the end of a run recorded on my Garmin Forerunner 220:

<Trackpoint>
<Time>2014-09-21T08:54:35.000Z</Time>
<Position>
<LatitudeDegrees>52.19545525498688</LatitudeDegrees>
<LongitudeDegrees>-2.2317213658243418</LongitudeDegrees>
</Position>
<AltitudeMeters>13.399999618530273</AltitudeMeters>
<DistanceMeters>10035.33984375</DistanceMeters>
<HeartRateBpm xsi:type="HeartRateInBeatsPerMinute_t">
<Value>181</Value>
</HeartRateBpm>
<Extensions>
<TPX xmlns="http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/ActivityExtension/v2">
<Speed>4.823999881744386</Speed>
<RunCadence>86</RunCadence>
</TPX>
</Extensions>
</Trackpoint>
</Track>
<Extensions>
<LX xmlns="http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/ActivityExtension/v2">
<MaxRunCadence>86</MaxRunCadence>
<AvgRunCadence>85</AvgRunCadence>
<AvgSpeed>5.122000217437745</AvgSpeed>
</LX>
</Extensions>

and this from Fitbit:

<Trackpoint>
<Time>2017-07-18T12:50:43.000Z</Time>
<Position>
<LatitudeDegrees>51.853652</LatitudeDegrees>
<LongitudeDegrees>-3.129573</LongitudeDegrees>
</Position>
<AltitudeMeters>68.8</AltitudeMeters>
<DistanceMeters>6839.3</DistanceMeters>
<HeartRateBpm xsi:type="HeartRateInBeatsPerMinute_t">
<Value>155</Value>
</HeartRateBpm>
<Extensions>
<TPX xmlns="http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/ActivityExtension/v2">
<Speed>2.1</Speed>
</TPX>
</Extensions>
</Trackpoint>
</Track>
<Extensions>
<LX xmlns="http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/ActivityExtension/v2">
<AvgSpeed>2.967</AvgSpeed>
</LX>

I think Fitbit could easily output Cadence
