As we all know the HR is approximate to say the least...eg I'm just back in from a 5 mile brisk walk, Polar shows 110bpm, Surge shows 89...manual check confirms 110...there are endless threads about this.
Would Fitbit consider writing an update, which could be optional, to increase the brightness of the LED's? Anyone interested could then be a beta tester for this. The downside of course would be shorter battery life. I currently get 5 or 6 days with a few GPS sessions and HR on all the time. I'd be happy to lose a couple of days to get an accurate HR which was the primary reason I bought the Surge.
Or is the technology just inaccurate and a novelty item?

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @Chris1963 , hope you're doing great! I'd recommend taking a look at this post to see how accurate is the GPS.
Give it a shot and let me know if you see an improvement!

My bad sweetie @Chris1963, I'm sorry!
Your heart rate reading will vary depending on several factors like movement, temperature, humidity, stress level, physical body position, caffeine intake, and medication.
If you were exercising when you noticed your heart rate did not seem correct, it may have to do with the nature of the exercise and placement of the tracker. For details about what can affect the accuracy of the heart rate reading, visit this thread and specifically the question "What impacts the accuracy of my heart rate reading?"
Awaiting for good news!

Hi, no worries.
That link is all well and good but how do Fitbit explain the Surge showing a completely different HR to a chest strap? And when manually checked the Surge is 30 - 40 bpm out? This is cycling - a non impact, non wrist movement exercise with the Surge worn in the correct place and manner and covered from external light.
It just doesn't work and I've had it a year and tried all sorts of different techniques. Great for resting HR sitting down or gentle walking, anything else its unreliable.
