Fitbit Surge in a funny state - reset doesn't correct

Found my Surge in a funny state when I woke up this morning - tried to soft reset but doesn't correct the issue. Waiting to do a hard reset, but have to wait for battery to drain - which will take days. Tried to sync, but looks like the watch is offline. Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so, how did you fix it? Is the watch dead? Can it be fixed?

can't resync the time on my surge even after allowing battery to drain
