Fitbit Surge won't hold a charge

Got this Surge as a gift for father's day .Brand new in the box and it won't hold a charge. Works fine plugged in but when I unplug it it shuts down and it's dead. I was really looking forward to using the Fitbit but now I'm at a loss is this a common or known issue with this model?

Hello @Bluesmaniac23 and welcome to the Help forum.  Fitbit discontinued the Surge in 2017 when it introduced the Ionic.  The kind of battery that Fitbit uses degrades over time even in storage.  It is quite possible that your Fitbit won't charge because of an old battery.
