Heart rate wildly inaccurate on Surge

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I have noticed that my Surge will go upwards of 170bpm during a fast(ish) walk (about 4mph), and I know that it's not the case. I have a Polar FT7 that I have had measured against EKG machines and it is accurate, nearly down to the exact beat. I've worn that during stress tests and it was keeping up with the machines hooked up to me.

I took the dog for a walk today, wore both the Surge and the FT 7, and at times the Surge was displaying 165 - 170 bpm, whereas the FT7 was showing a heart rate of 109 - 115, which is more the norm for me. Do I just have a faulty device? I have tried switching wrists, tightening the band, loosening the band and it's still showing some wildly innacurate heart rates.
Being a heart patient, monitoring an accurate heart rate is of the highest importance to me. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello @cgt465 it's great to have you here! 😉 Please notice that Fitbit trackers are not intended to provide medical or scientific data. As with all heart-rate tracking technology, whether a chest strap or a wrist-based sensor, accuracy is affected by personal physiology, location of wear, and type of movement. You already tried switching wrists and experimenting with how tight you wear your tracker, have you tried wearing your tracker higher on your wrist?  Also have you tried to restart your tracker?

I'll be around if you have any questions! 🙂
