Hi @KerrL

If not already done, consider trying another usb port. Cat Embarassed

Normally not required since new, though feel free to check out the Fitbit Help Article:

It's brand new.. Don't think it needs cleaned etc. I've tried wall and 2 different computers/laptops..

Fastest to exchange at the store of purchase with receipt as it sounds having a battery issue.

Consider exchanging for the Fitbit Blaze, as it has exchangeable bands (with a more secure wristband like the Surge), in case the band breaks of the Surge outside of warranty, a new tracker needs to be purchased..

It also has a coloured screen, possible to choose between classic, leather & metallic bands..

Classic & Leather bands in several colours available, it comes with a classic band, optional bands can be purchased seperately.

It costs a bit less then the Surge, for GPS (tracking exercises with gps option) it can use the GPS of the phone, though can be turned of if not needing to view a map of your walks.. Cat Embarassed

Hey there @KerrL! It's a shame to hear that you're experiencing this inconvenience with your new Alta, if you have already tried charging it the way it says on the article that @SunsetRunner shared. If issue persists I recommend contacting the Support Team so they can review your device history and tell you the options.

Let me know the outcome!
