With some help from Fitbit support on Chat, I got Sync to work. He (Philip) provided a link to an article about Android 6.0 (Marshmallow). So I went to Settings -> Application Manager -> Fitbit -> Permissions and found that access to Storage was Off. So I set it On and Sync brought phone's Fitbit info up to date.
