Hi,
I just got my fitbit surge and im having trouble reading my texts messages. I recieve the notification that I have a new message but I cant open it to read it.
I have a samasung s3 which maybe the problem as it is old, still functions well.

Do full messages show up in the status bar of your phone? If not, the phone is probably the issue. You need to go into the messaging app, open settings, notifications, and select preview message.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @GeorginaA301 Woman Very Happy! I'd recommend taking a look at the workarounds provided by @ErickFitbit in this thread . If this doesn't work, please try restarting your Surge step-by-step shared by @SunsetRunner. Let me know how it goes.
