No its not normal, either take it back to place of purchase or contact fitbit support. There are numerous threads on here regarding the band breaking, is a good idea to read them so you can make an informed choice.

Hi my band is also splitting badly where the screws are, the retailer referred me to Fitbit as it was a gift and I didn't have the receipt. Did you manage to get a replacement strap?

I am on my second Surge that the band has separated. I have chosen to keep wearing the one I have for now. Is there a permanent solution to this issue other than returning it to Best Buy?

@noodleman The Surge has a history (over 2 years) of faulty bands. Fitibit does not consider them replaceable but Amazon and E-bay sell aftermarket ones. YouTube has "How to" videos to help the process. If it is still returnable then I would do so as the Surge has been discontinued and been replaced by the Ionic. Fitbit does honor the Surge warranty but after that you're on your own. Good luck.

My first one lasted until the warranty ended. I replaced it with a $10 eBay replacement (YouTube describes installation and it's not too difficult). The second chepo band last about 8 months and is cracking at the screws. I just received another eBay band and I'm going to install it soon. Whatever you do, if you have an S8 phone DO NOT buy a Blaze. Regardless of what FitBit may tell you, the Blaze is not fully functional with a Samsung S8. Go to the Blaze Help Forums and do your research, you'll see. I'm just very glad I got my Blaze used for $60 like new. It's a pretty thing but useless with my S8. It will be going back on eBay soon. Terrible battery life, no phone or message notifications, hit and miss sleep stage measurements. Now I know why the previous owner dumped it.
