My surge is logging lots of steps during spin class!

I am new to the fitbit world, but so far love it! I have found tons of answers to my questions through this forum, so thank you all for your help 🙂

I have one issue that I can't seem to find a straight answer for, should I be logging steps for an hour spin class?

I am using the spinning exercise on the tracker, I am logging about 2300 steps per class, consistently.

My friend has surge as well, taking same hour class and logging about 400. We can't seem to figure out whats up!

Thanks guys!!

Just check if you specified your "dominant hand" setting if you're wearing your surge with your dominant hand!!! It happened to me before but after I changed the setting it was a lot better 🙂

I am reading a lot of other discussions and I am getting mixed info. Some say should not log steps during spin. Some say to manually log information, but that has conflicts as well. I am getting a little discouraged at the accuracy I am getting from my surge. I also noticed my steps are not accurate. I was counting pages standing still and was moving my hands, I gained all kinds of 'steps'. Any insight on that? @Anna1118

kind of... When the surge comes across some movements that does not recognise, it'll count them as steps, like when I play my violin, it also counts it as steps too

As for steps being logged during spin class, this would depend on what type arms are diong. I could see how holding bars loosely are s cheaper lighter unit couldvive steps.

@Rich_Laue

I thought that as well. My arms do very little during spin class, they rest lightly on the bars.

I am just not sold on the accuracy of the steps. My friend takes same spin class, right beside me, and logs 400 steps. I am about 2000 give or take, that is quite a difference.

I just want to know if spin class is supposed to log steps or not.

I feel like it should, when I am out of the saddle, my feet are coming down a little harder.

Thanks for your help!

@Anna1118 LOL! I do take it off often really I do 🙂

Please read this article on how the fitbit counts steps, and since your Surge is connected to the arm any correct arm movements mayy produce steps. Have you voted on the feature to remove steps while cycling?
