I'm with you.
Purchased SURGE and would not sync with iPad mini Model A1432. How on earth do you find out if A1432 is compatible with SURGE before you buy a SURGE ?.
Next tried on Moto G5 android only 2 months old. Still no sync. Again, how on earth do you find out if SURGE will sync with Moto G5 android before you buy one ?.
Last chance, I tried with my Windows 8.1 laptop and finally made it. Now I can't find out how to actually view my steps on the laptop. If I can somehow view them for "today" and "for the last 7 days" on the laptop, can I also view them on my android and iPad via the web page?.
Forums etc are great if you chance to ask the right question or someone else has already asked, but otherwise hopeless for a dummy like me, who just wants to see how many steps they did, tell the time of day, and track my circuitous route round a golf course.
Is there a geek out there how can actually help us dummies ?

Thanks for trying Wendy, but I believe you have highlighted the very point I am trying to make.
Selecting Android then Motorola, the dropdown gives G models for 2013 and 2014 where my G5 is 2017. Well at least it was purchased new in Oct-2017, so hopefully was made later than 2014 and had a few improvements since then ?.
Similarly Selecting IOS then Apple the dropdown gave iPad mini Gen 1-2-3, but how do I know what gen. (IOS) my A1432 is ?. Secret squirrel has got nothing on Apple !
What I do know (more correctly; what I think I know) after purchasing a SURGE is that it is not compatible with whatever my iPad mini A1432 IOS is, or with whatever android version my Moto G5 is, but it does work with Windows 8.1..
My other question about accessing SURGE data with either the iPad mini or Moto G5 from the web, after download from the SURGE to the web via Windows 8.1, still stands.

Well I'll be darned !. Having set up SURGE to sync on the laptop, my previously "incompatible" iPad mini and Moto G5 android can now view the data. A miracle of cyberspace ?

Next the GPS thing. I can see from the HELP files and the FORUMS that SURGE has a GPS, but nowhere can I find out how to use it. Seems I have to turn it on, but HOW ??
By the way, I'm a golfer not a jogger. How dare FitBit accuse me of proceeding at more than a decent walking speed !. Since I have bilateral steel knees, I can't jog anyway. For me, 10,000 steps usually buzzes on the 14th fairway, but I have never checked the total after 18 holes.

Listen up : SURGE GPS FOR DUMMIES (thanks to my daughter on the other side of the world).
Press the button on the left. > Slide your finger across the screen til RUN comes up. > Press the lower right button and slide across until the activity you want comes up. I will use FREE RUN for golf. > Press and hold the Tick mark on the bottom right of the screen. If the gods are willing, the SURGE will start searching for satellites. You can either wait til it finds them or press QUICK START to start immediately and GPS will soon catch up. > Press the GO arrow and the stopwatch will start. > When finished, press the button on the left and the stopwatch and GPS will turn OFF. Hopefully a mapping track will appear on your laptop or tablet after the next sync. Testing tomorrow !.
Apparently my Golf Buddy will do the same thing, but my daughter does not play golf so that's another story for another web site.

Good news and bad news. The GPS finally started after trying for ages. 18 holes of golf was 9.5k, 15,000 steps and 4 hours near enough. Managed to stop GPS but could not turn it OFF - please refer to blog "how to turn SURGE GPS off". The only answer that worked for me was RESET which took 30 odd seconds not 15. So I've got a pretty expensive bit of equipment to tell the time and count how many steps I have walked. Heart rate and calories are vaguely interesting.
