New hourly activity goal

Seem kind of strange that they would add a new hourly activity goal to the Fitbit dashboard without implementing it in the tracker. With tracker implementation your reminded if you aren't going to make the goal in time to get up and walk. With just the dashboard and no tracker you get to sadly see how many hours a day you forgot to walk. Not quite as motivating 😞

I agree but hopefully this is just the first step and tracker updates with "reminder to move" are on the way.

Hourly chime (vib/pulse) would work too.

I will just say that I like the new "Hourly Activity" panein the iOS app, and thank you to Fitbit for doing this.  It is nicely done. (Insert some grumbles about timing here, but still, they did it!)

I am now a bit more cautiously optimistic that we might get this ability in an upcoming firmware release.

Thank you Fitbit!

I have a problem with the limited time frame allowed for tracking activity. I work outside of normal hours and my 14 hour activty window usually  spans across the midnight hour. Two things are problematic. The first is not being able to adjust the minutes field. This negates all activity between 23:00 and 23:59. A period of time anyone working the graveyard shift is either at work, preparing for work or on the way to work. Then as I sleep after getting in from work, then arise midday, I am unable to split the time being monitored around my sleep pattern. I have defaulted to the time I usally awaken to 23:00(11 PM), so my 14 hour window of activity is now only only 8 hours and I'll never get the 9 hours reccommended. I lose the hour last hour of the day and any time outside the 14 window. For me that is from midnight to 7 AM. So 8 hours when I'm usually most active. I understand the 14 hour window as sleep is a requirement and there are time for relaxation, but a set up similiar to the "Sleep" logging, whereby there can be separate or multiple "windows" of activity monitoring would address this issue for those of is living outside the "standard hours of operation".

I'll do the "grumbling" about the timing issue for you.

Beware the accuracy!

The documentation says that in order for the 250 steps to register, there has to be 10 minutes of continuous activity in an hour. Not cumulative continuous.

Even with that baseline ... you need to be really moving. I just spent 40 minutes moving around my office reading and edting a manuscript [walking as I read, stopping to jot a note, then move again.] Logged more than 300 steps and yet, my Fitbit tells me that I have been stationary for 1 hour and 22 minutes.

While the new hourly activity tracker is a great new feature, please, please, please add a vibrating reminder to automatically prompt us when we are stationary for too long.  Those of us with desk jobs find it all too easy to lose track of time and end up sitting for hours on end.  Setting alarms to remind us to move isn't nearly as useful as having the tracker automatically detect when we have been stationary for too long and prompting us to move.  Thanks!

Makes sense for a firmware update. Your not going to substitute your charge Hr for the new device just because of this new feature. You would llose the heart rate functionality which is of more value than being reminded to move every 1hr

ditto.. another shift worker here who's activity is all after 5PM and before 3AM, steps taken and exercise between these hours don't appear to count to the hourly activity goals.

Edit: Ok so I found the setting to change the range of hours once the tile was added to the Dashboard - still for shift workers it limits the range of hours EG I set mine to between 4PM (time I wake up) and midnight but it would be nice to be able to extend the finish to the early hours of the morning.

Exactly my point Mr. Walka. Many of us are not tied to the "normal workday", so, that timing issue from 11pm on is problematic at the very least.

I hope they add it to the Surge since it is one of the higher end devices (maybe the highest end in terms of all the features and price). I actually ordered the Alta today. I am not sure what I was thinking since I already have a few Fitbits. My favorite are the One (my daily tracker) and the Surge (for workouts and also I use it when working at home for the reminders). My One has started irritating my skin when I wear it clipped on my bra (strange as it was fine for the two years I have had it) so I decided to go for a sleek, stylish wrist-worn option and the hourly reminders helped cinch that deal. I do still hope they add the reminders to the Surge. I had been setting  the stopwatch when I am working at home to remind me to move.

Please add the hourly activity tracker for the One too.
Best Answer

Thank you for your comments @Kapass! Please know that the Hourly Activity goals are not available for the Fitbit One and Zip.

This is because the trackers with auto-sleep capability can accurately distinguish between Sleep Time and Stationary Time. If a tracker doesn't have this ability to distinguish, results for Stationary Time could be mistaken for Sleep Time, which results in indistinguishable data.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions Cat Very Happy

I like the new feature but I would also like to see a reminder alert for the HR. Also it would be good to see how many steps have been counted for the current hour.
