Flew form Los Angeles to Washington dc yesterday and my surge won't update to east coasting. I tried to sync, but it won't, says " pull to sync," but nothing happens.

Please confirm if you followed the steps in this master post? As those steps are really effective. You're right Fitbit tracker should change the time almost in the same way that phones, that's why I need you to check those suggestions.
I'll be waiting for your response.

Hi @fmichell! It's great to see you here, hope you find this post helpful!
You're right! Sometimes when you travel you have to manually update the date. In this case, force quit the Fitbit App and try to force sync your tracker one more time. If that doesn't help, check this article with some awesome troubleshooting steps for syncing issues.

Thank you, but this has happened before. I finally got it to sync, it needed to "locate" the device. So it synced but time did not change. I'e turned it off and on, still no update. So frustrating, getting tired of this stupid thing!!!

Thanks for getting back @fmichell! Too bad you're having all those issue to get your Fitbit to work, you did a good job trying those steps by the way.
I'd like to know what are you using to sync, like which model of phone or type or computer your using to connect your Fitbit. Make sure it is on the list of supported devices. Did you try the steps in this master post? This is very helpful.
Keep me posted.
