Notifications and surge and huawei p8lite

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.
I have seen this post a few times but still no concrete answer. I have a huawei p8 lite and a surge. Everything works great apart from the fact I cant receive notifications on my surge at all. Never have done. Works fine synced with my partners samsung s6.

The huawei p8 lite is apparently in the list of compatible devices but I have done every step and used every troubleshoot to try and fix the problem but it just doesnt work.

Can anybody please finally answer this with a decent answer instead if a link to a another troubleshoot as I will have probably seen it.

Many thanks

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @Hubbardey Smiley Very Happy! I was checking the list of our Supported Devices and it seems that we just support the P8 and not the P8 Lite. If that's the case, keep in mind that the Fitbit app won't work.

If I'm wrong, try the following steps with your compatible device:

  1. You set up your tracker using the Fitbit app and didn't try to set up your tracker using your device's Bluetooth settings instead. Fitbit trackers require that you use the Fitbit app. If you see "Incorrect Pin or Password Error" on iOS, Android, or Windows 10, you probably tried to set up using Bluetooth settings. Note that with Windows 8.1+ mobile devices, setting up through Bluetooth settings will appear to work initially but you won't be able to sync your tracker. Follow the instructions in How do I set up my tracker?
  2. Your device's operating system (software) is updated to the latest version. To verify:
    • Android—Tap Settings > About Phone or About Device > Android Version. If an update is available, install it.
  3. Bluetooth is enabled on your device. To verify:
    • Android—Tap Settings > Connections > Bluetooth. If Bluetooth is off, turn it on.
  4. Make sure of the following:
    1. Power Saving Mode is off. This mode frequently causes the device to disable Bluetooth.
    2. If you're using Android Marshmallow, you granted the Fitbit app access to the requested features of your mobile device. The Fitbit app requires certain permissions in order to set up, pair, and sync your tracker. For more information, see Why do I receive access requests from the Fitbit app on my Android mobile device?
  5. The tracker is not already set up ("paired") to your account. If you're looking at your Fitbit dashboard and you see the tracker name at the top, set up is done.

Hope this helps!

Why cant fitbit support the p8 lite if they already support the p8. Seems daft to me

Well @Hubbardey, Fitbit is the first fitness device to offer Bluetooth Smart syncing with your Android device. Wireless sync has been a frequently requested feature from our Android users, so we've been eager to get support out as quickly as possible. While many Android devices have a Bluetooth 4.0 chip, not all devices are able to be accessed by apps like the Fitbit App.

To see the latest list of supported devices, please go to http://www.fitbit.com/devices. If your device isn't listed as it's now, you can check the link at a later date to see if device support has been added.

We appreciate your understanding while we work to improve this experience, and encourage you to let us know if you have any additional feedback on this and other features.

I'm with you on that one, @Hubbardey. I have a Charge HR and it does everything else, including alarms, but not call notifications. I have a P8 Lite too and like you perhaps, cannot believe that the phones can be that different that the function will work on the P8 but not the P8 Lite. If the tracker software/app is THAt specific then I'm surprised anything works. The software function should be much more transparent than that. (it did not work with my previous Samsung Ace3 as that was only running Android 4.2). Come on Fitbit - please get these flaky 'issues' sorted out. I have been persevering with this device for over 18 months now and I still have problems.

Hello again. I have done some more fiddling with my devices. I thought I had tried everything but this time I decided to have a look at my Huawei P8 Lite's Bluetooth settings pane and saw that the Charge HR was shown as a 'Paired Device' (as you might hope). I 'unpaired' it and attempted to re-pair it, but the phone could not find it, as a 'paired' or 'available' device). Darn I thought.  So I tried syncing my tracker and that worked fine, although my tracker was still not shown as paired. (I'll note here that a few minutes later the 'Charge HR' reappeared in the  'Paired Device'). Anyhow, I then brought up the notifications pane on the Android app and saw more information and options than I was seeing before. I turned on notifications, in short, and presto! - I am receiving notifications - albeit who's calling only - no text notifications which might be normal for the charge anyway. I restarted my phone and rebooted my tracker too during this process but that had made no difference in the past. I have also concluded that to make notifications work you DO NOT need to have 'all day sync' or 'always connected' enabled. Nor would it seem you have to have the Fitbit app running, although it may have been running in background despite my attempts to disable it while testing things. The 'Notifications Widget' does not seem to have any effect either. Perhaps unpairing the tracker had solved my problem. Note also that I have always been able to receive alarms so some connectivity was possible.

It appears to be a case with these devices and aps that it's not what you see but what you don't see that is the problem. Using the screenshots below, if you are not seeing these screens then you have a problem. (but you already knew that!) I hope this may help some of you Huawei users at least. Let me know.

Subsequent to my last post, turning on the notifications widget may make the function more reliable, as they suggest. I see it comes up in my notifications pane on my phone when it is running. Up to you.

Hello @tonyfrompetone and @pausant@tonyfrompetone thanks for sharing! I'm glad to hear you are receiving notifications! @pausant I was reviewing the list of compatible devices and the Huawei P8 lite is currenlty not listed, only the Huawei P8. Did you try the troubleshoot previously advised by @tonyfrompetone

I'll be around if you have any questions! 🙂
