Pair Surge to iPhone or not

I have a potentially odd question. I have the call and text notifications turned off on my Surge. Since I don't want notifications and have all day sync turned off, is there any advantage to un-pairing my surge from the phone. If the two are not actually paired, the app will just connect with the Surge on the spot and sync when I open it.
I am just curious if that might save battery on the surge (or not) since they are always connected to each other when paired. Or maybe it makes no difference since the Bluetooth on the Surge is always on anyway. I'm not completely sure how these things work, so thanks for the help.

Needs to be paired to the phone if you want it to sync to the phone.

It will only drain the battery if you are syncing often to it

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it.
It doesn't technically have to be paired to the iPhone to sync however. As long as you enter the 4 digit code when initially setting it up, it will sync, but doesn't actually pair with the phone (i.e.-Bluetooth icon always on and always connected). Without pairing, the Bluetooth icon is off (on the phone) until you open the app. Then you just open the FitBit app, the app "looks" for the Surge, then connects and syncs.
I'm not sure if this makes sense or even matters 🙂
Thanks again.

You do not have to pair the surge. The app recognizes it. The surge uses bt low energy and always stays connected without impacting battery life.

Thanks KennyS. That's what I thought. I've since decided to turn the notifications back on anyway since I missed them. I'll just leave it paired to my phone.
