Thanks for the information. I have a Surge and I have to charge ever day when I'm going 14,000 to 30.000 steps a day. It runs the battery so much I have to charge the l have to charge my Surge sometimes two times a day.

@45marathonsaaa Your Surge should not need charging that often. I would check with support.

I did. I was talking to them about switching to the new Fit Fitbit that came out and what the difference is and which would be best with the steps I get in from running everyday.
With the Surge you don't have to take your phone with you because of the built-in GPS but the other one I'd have to take my phone with me every time.
I can't imagine racing a Marathon with my phone attached. So they advised keeping the Surge.
Question - I have the GPS on all the time, is that what runs the battery down so fast?

If you leave the GPS on, the battery will only last about 10 hours. Less if the heart rate monitor is on.

With the Surge laving the GPS on  while inside a building, cause excess battery drain.

To leave the GPS on the Blaze and Surge will need to be left in an actively talking mode, such as walking

Thanks for the info, I shut the GPS off yesterday except when I ran and I didn't have to charge my Surge for almost two days.

Hmmm, I often log 30,000+ steps in a day, and occasionally that many on a single GPS tracked run, and my Surge's battery only requires charging every second or third day.  Have you power-cycled your Surge; earlier this year mine got into some sort of a power burn mode and I was needing to charge it at least once per day until I restarted it.

I've moved this conversation on the GPS and questions out of the share your story, and into the help section on the Surge.

Thanks for the information, I've tried it the last few days and it seems
like my phone and my Fitbit batteries are lasting longer.

I've also disabled the "All-Day" update feature on my phone; that seems to help a bit as well.

WendyB - what a great idea of parking grocery cart - I could get my cane out of the cart and walk and make sure I get "credit" - great thinking!! Especially for those of us who aren't so great at walking to begin with!! Thanks!

Yep, better than Facebook. I got my Alta - immediately called Customer Support, explained that I am an idiot and told the rep to feel free to call me an idiot too - they didn't, of course. But, with the tracker (guess that's what I call the wrist thingy) on, dongle in computer, still not sure why, but it is as good a place as any to store it, if my smart phone gets too close to computer, things go nuts. I printed out the instruction booklet. I do not want my tracker wrist thingy to worry about texts, calls and stuff going to my cell phone. Everyone I know, knows to never call me on my cell - if I hear it, there is a more than even chance I won't figure out how to answer the thing in time. Texts and Fitbit - that's all I use my cell phone for - or I take pictures and I can send the pictures but can't figure out how to get pictures developed - on paper - whatever it's called these days. I took a video - a 15 minute video - there is nothing you can do with a 15 minute video - can't send it to anyone. Technology - ain't it great? That's the problem with having to retire on disability in 2007 - in 2007 cell phones could barely take a picture. Stop working and being around stuff, then it all takes over the world, and I got left in the dust. BUT I got my Fitbit, so I don't care. My Alta buzzes me a lot - need to figure out what it's saying to me (other than get off your rear end!!) - except I think that is what it's saying!!
