Welcome to the Community @1goldengreek! Ok if you recently purchased your Surge and you already set it up and everything, you will see calories burned for the previous days even before start using your tracker. This is an estimate of your historical caloric burn. Although Fitbit doesn't have activity recorded at that time, we can base your caloric burn activity (before you've had a tracker) via your BMR. Your Fitbit will reset at midnight every night, clearing your data for the day; however you still burn calories while you sleep or rest, so the data you see is your estimated calorie burn for the day or BMR, it is estimated using your age, gender, height and weight.

Now regarding the steps, maybe while you were carrying even without start wearing it, your tracker counted a few steps. This is because the tracker recognize some movements as steps. But you can delete those if you want, by following the instructions on this post.

Hope that helps!
