Surge Battery Life is only 6 hours

Silent Alarms: None

Music Control: None

All-Day Sync: Off

Quick View: Off

Notifications: 2 -- Call and Text Notifications.

I rarely get phone calls or texts.

I only synch my Surge 3 times a day.

I may swipe the screen 6 times a day, if that.

Yet I only get about 6 hours of battery life from it: it dies in my sleep, which is an inconvenience. One of the reasons why I got the Surge was to monitor my sleep.

I have had it for about a year, and I used to get 3 days from a charge.

What is the expected life of a Surge? Is there anything else I can do to extend the battery life?

I have had my surge for six weeks.  If I'm lucky, i get 24 hours from a charge. any activity that uses the GPS kills it even more quickly (i was aware that GPS use shortens battery life). FitBit, what do you recommend ?

Then it is working as advertised, which is no more than one would expect. BTW - GPS is off unless you use one of the specific activities that turns it on like running or bike

Hi @HeydyF - I logged a call with support, they confirmed my Surge had a faulty battery and have since replaced it FOC.  I have now had the replacement four days so far and battery life is much better.  Thanks for the follow up - Al.

E-mailed Tech Support.

Did what the same silly things mentioned above.

Tech Support gave up and sent me a new Surge.

Problem solved ... for now.

Tried them. Didn't work. My life revolves around charging the Surge since it only lasts for 6 hours.

Emailed Tech Support. They agreed that the Surge is a dud. They sent me a new one.

Nothing else helped.

@PJS70

I just contacted Tech Support, and they sent me a replacement.

"Thank you for troubleshooting the Fitbit Surge tracker¨s battery issue with us. We can assist you with the Fitbit Surge tracker¨s warranty.

"We can see in the account that the battery is lasting about 8 hours, these kind of issues are all covered by our warranty.

"Please note that this is not a normal behavior of our trackers and we'd like to help you live up the true Fitbit experience by providing you with a complimentary replacement.

"We appreciate that you're a Fitbit member, and we want nothing more than to help you solve the issue you're experiencing with your Fitbit Charge HR tracker, so you can continue to reach your goals."

Hmmm, interesting. So Fitbit can see the battery life data.  Good to know.

Mine is new, less than a month old, and I can already see that if I go for a long bicycle ride, the battery will give out before my sixty-five-year-old body does.  Not a good sign.  The engineers of all this new technology don't seem to appreciate or understand how we use this stuff.  The only battery powered stuff that lasts as long as I need it are my flashlights and old transistor radio.  Everything else needs to be recharged about an hour before I need a nap.

Hi @SunsetUser sounds awesome that Customer Support helped you out with this, and sent you a new Fitbit Surge to get you back on track!

@DougLourey I really appreciate your feedback in regards to improve the battery life of the trackers. I'm truly sorry to hear about your Surge battery issues as Fitbit products are durable and long lasting and should not have become defective at an early stage and this applies for all of our Fitbit trackers.

Let me know if you need anything else guys!

@DougLourey - The battery life of the Surge is around 5 hours when using the GPS functionality. @Fitbit do make this very clear on their website and literature for the device. How long are you riding for and how long is it lasting ?

Interesting, they offered a 25% discount to purchase a new Fitbit product when I contacted them for a dying battery after 12 hours and turning off all the features also.  My Surge was past the 1 year warranty period.

Same here too, 2 months out of warranty and its kaput.

This device needs a 'user replaceable battery.'  And there needs to be an option for installing a longer-life battery.  I can't wear mine all-day-long because it needs to be recharged too often.  So how valuable are the Dashboard reports on my daily activity?  They're not.

It's designed like a wristwatch, but functions more like a stopwatch; something you use while at the track working out.  When mine starts acting up, I'm just gonna throw it into my kitchen junk drawer.  I won't be buying another one either, so it's just a fad to me.

Hey

Thanks for the comment. Mine is probably going in the trash, can't be fixed
& completely kaput. I have a Zip. Have been using it for years with no
problem & battery life is great.

Was thinking about buying the Blaze but why spend $250 it will barely last
over a year? I don't think so. I just wonder as they become more successful,
they are cutting the quality of products???

Thanks

Tim

I see in one of your replies above, to quote you, "I. Truly sorry to hear about your Surge battery issues as Fitbit products are durable and long lasting and should not have become defective at an early stage and this applies to all are Fitbit frackers".
That being said, can you define what you mean by durable and long lasting? How long is long lasting? How long are they durable? What is the expected usable lifespan of the Surge? Is it reasonable to believe from my experience and a few others here, that the durability and long lasting you mention is really about 12 months? Surely Fitbit must keep track of warranty issues or complaints?
I'm not quite sure how people can say Fitbit customer service is awesome, since they are doing what is required on devices within warranty and nothing but a very small discount for devices out of warranty by just a couple of months.
I'm not trying to be difficult, but you did leave the door open for my questions, and I'm assuming since you are a moderator that you are also employed by Fitbit and just might have access to that information.
