Surge GPS Driving question

Hi.

I have a Charge HR and I love it. I'm a local truck driver and the roads in Manitoba are really awful and I track a lot of steps from driving during the day. I am aware of the isuee and the fix of logging it as a activity.

I have a iPhone 6 so there is no way for DriveBit to start automatically that I'm aware of. Right now I just write down the times I'm driving and enter the information manually but sometimes I forget to track my driving time.

I'm wondering if I bought a Surge could I backtrack my day through GPS and clean it up manually by looking at the high pace? Are times included with the GPS data? I want to be able look at my day and say yes, here I'm driving and enter it manually.

Basically will the surge give me a more automated and accurate approach to entering my driving data?

Maybe I'll try this on Monday but what if I track my whole day as a run on the iOS app? My phone is always in the truck while working. Can I go through the data this way instead of buying a Surge. I have not used this feature of the app. Maybe I'll go for a walk and check it out.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi @Dogg - I'm not completely sure that I understand what you are looking to do. I would point out, however, that on the Surge, the GPS is only triggered when measure specific activities - running/walking/biking. It's not on full time and if it were, it would drain the battery very quickly.

Agreed, you'd need to be permanently in exercise mode to even get the GPS tracking. Even if it would last the day, I think it would be simpler to carry on with what you're already doing.

Yea. The all day GPS would certainly kill the battery fast, I did not think of that thanks.

I hope this clarifies what I was asking, probably not. LoL

I wanted to know the best way I could tell exactly when I was driving and then I would enter the activity as driving for a accurate step count ect. DriveBit is not automated on iOS and sometimes I forget to write down my drive times, so I just enter my whole work day as driving. Writing off my whole workday as driving cheats me because I do some walking around the yard, coupling to trailers, some other physical activities, etc.

However I found a solution that works for me. I downloaded a iOS app called GPS Tracks for my phone which stays plugged in and in my truck most of the work day. Now I just track my whole day and at the end of the day while I'm at home, I can go through my day and it will allow me to see exactly at what times I was driving by looking at my speed and where I am on the map. I then will enter this time as driving in to the FitBit Log. No memory needed.

I wish they would just incorporate something similar in to the FitBit app. If someone is going over X amount of speed then they are not burning extra calories, taking steps or climbing stairs ect. I leave my FitBit app running 24/7 anyways. I'm sure there is a way to do it, even a way to conserve the battery by using some kind of sleep, awake mode for the GPS like GPS Tracks does. But give us the option.

Thanks for your replies.
