Surge adds significant miles while driving - completely unreliable

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.
Its well known problem that surge counts steps while driving. I also notice the surge adding significant miles while driving (lot more than fake steps will explain). I end up with 10k steps (when it should be 8k steps due to "driving" steps. However my miles jump from 5 miles to 10+ miles within minutes (while driving). I wish I can post my screenshots here to show how unrealistic the step and Mike graphs look. I would expect that Fitbit responds to this common issue quickly and effectively.

If you are having this issue with the Surge you might want to turn it off while driving.  That would be a simple solution.  But don't forget to turn it back on!

I don't think that's a solution. Only reason I wear this instead of endomondo is that I don't have to manually adjust things. Besides I am not good at following these manually. Adding a few steps and the corresponding small miles (like 50 steps and 0.03 miles) is what I can accept. But steps go up by a thousand or so but surprised the miles go up disproportionately by 5-6 miles (my typical mile is 1800 steps, so 1000 steps would be 0.6 miles even with error). I am not sure how it calculates !!😳. If no one faces this issue with surge, I wonder if I got a lemon.

Regards, bax.

It's normal, i get this as well both in my car and while riding my motorcycle. The steps also tend to fly right up when it's a bumpy road i've came to notice. Looked it up when i first noticed the problem and found an app for the phone called 'Drivebit' so give that a download in the App store.

It doesen't count the steps made while in a vehicle.

Thanks Julia for making me feel that I not alone do so .... I do Shutdown and Restart my fitbit before  driving.

I am in India and here roads are bumpy/poor constructed due to corruption in road making is highly lucrative mode for earning  ... lots of reasons to say 🙂

So deleting steps manually or deleting accurately by help of drivebit is too much .....

As read in some post, there might be possibility fitbit will come up with mode 'driving' ... this will record steps but will not get added ....  so lets wait and watch.
