My fit bit surge is not new, I've had it for a year now. The only time I would take it off to clean it and charge it is when I take a shower, or in the mornings before heading to work. I know the fit bit tracks your BMR but the problem is, is that I ended up having to charge it last night because I forgot to plug it in before my shower. So I didn't wear it at all last night. I just turned it on after taking it off of the charger and it says that I burned 500 cal since midnight. BUT I WAS NOT EVEN WEARING IT. Is this because it's defective or is it showing that's the avg for what I should have burned and it automatically calculates into my cal count for the day?

You don't need to be wearing it for it to track your BMR calories as they are calculated only from your profile settings and added to your total calories at a constant rate.
