I'm really surprised by the Answer you received regarding the replacement. I see no reason to force the Plum HR on your husband. I can only imagine the black is out of stock and it would delay the replacement but not offer you the 25% only.
I would advise you to contact support again to clarify this situation.

I'm having the same issue. I bought my Surge in February of 2016. The band is bubbling and separating from the watch face.
Update: I contacted Fitbit support via email, and after verifying that my Surge was still under warranty, they are replacing it at no cost to me.

@BryanLarsen welcome to our Community! I am sorry that your Surge band ended up acting up.

Thank you. I contacted Fitbit support, and my Surge is being replaced with no hassles at all. I'm very pleased with the company for taking care of it's customers.
