Surge band coming apart

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Anyone else having severe issues with the band coming apart on their surge? I've gone through 3 in 14 months already. I only wear it if I'm walking or running. I have stopped using it when I work out or play sports because I want it to last, but I'm still not having any luck. Anyone have tips? I'm debating on buying another one because I'm out of warranty. I love the app, but the product has been disapointing so far. I'm hoping there's a good trick to get it to last!

Second Surge and only 25% towards a new one. Ridiculous. I don't think offering to have me purchase a new less expensive band is the solution. I want resolution for my current band, and warranty should restart when a replacement band is sent. Because it was less then a year and it busted and bubbled just like my first band. Not fair going off the purchase of my first band that gave out less then 6 months after it was purchased. Super disappointed and frustrated. I think Fitbit needs to recall this obviously defective band.

Sad point to this tread: I got an email from a local electronics store
today, offering refurbished Surges for $100. Or you could replace your
refurb Surge directly from Fitbit for $187.

Sad!

And I don't really like the fact that Fitbit is remaining very mute on this
subject. Makes believe they really don't care.

I glued it down to smooth it out after they told me I was out of luck. It isn't perfect but at least it looks better.

What kind of glue did you use? I tried super glue and it didn't really take.

Gorilla glue. Just did it today so I will see how it works.

I have been through 3 trackers in the last 14 months as well. I find it insulting that they want me to spend even more money by offering me 25% off. I spent it on the surge thinking it would last longer than a year but have had nothing but bad luck. i thought it was only me but seeing all of the posts you would think Fitbit would do something to compensate loyal customers. I've purchased 4 trackers for family over the last 2 years, telling everyone how great it was.

It's too bad really because I loved everything about it. I'll continue to use my defect Surge until the band falls apart and then I will look at competitors options that cost less and will hopefully last longer. This surge was a gift and I'm not willing to pay another $300+ for a tracker that won't even last a year.

Wow - apparently this is an overall product performance issue on a large scale and not restarting the warranty is just wrong!

Mine also broke 18 months after I bought it.

Their response is that it is outside the warranty and that the strap cannot be replaced.

Anybody looking to purchase a Fitbit Surge DO NOT buy one.

Do you guys think that some of these problems could be caused by wearing the band too tight or not cleaning it? I only ask this because, again, I haven't had any problems with my band. Maybe a little regular user maintenance could prevent some of these issues. I clean my band with cetaphil. I know cetaphil is a little expensive, but I think it's worth it because I have a band in pretty good shape. I also only tighten up my band when I start running or hiking and then loosen it when I'm not exercising.

I don't think it is just a maintenance issue, bokonist. I kept up regular maintenance on my 1st Surge band, and "over-maintained" my 2nd Surge band but got the same results. A broken band. I think you are the exception if you have not had issues with your band and if you wear it all the time, it simply does not last. It's good that it's lasted for you.

Hi Gdobbin,

You are very fortunate if your are not broken. Do you where it every day?

I regularly cleaned mine and wear it very loose I do not like it to be tight at all, in general my surge looks like it is almost new except for the Strap starting to break at the screw mounting mounts.

My feeling is still that this is a poor design and not being able to repair it is irrational.

I am very willing to purchase a new strap.

Buy a different product!!!! I have had my surge for about 16 months and the band on the 3rd one (yes, I am on the 3rd surge in 16 months) has worn out. Now fitbit refuses to do anything about it! This product is junk!

$250 product and I have gone through 3 of them in 16 months! There is no doubt the product is horrible and the fact Fitbit won't stand by their products tells me all I need to know about their company!

I had a Charge HR, and the strap was coming apart, and the battery life got really poor. So I took it back to the shop where I bought it, and they let me part exchange it for the Surge.

I love it, but now the Surge strap has started to come apart. The rubber is "bubbling" and coming away from the plastic. It still works fine, but looks kinda ugly. However, because I exchanged it in the store, it is still under warranty. I'm kinda waiting to see if there's a Surge 2 before the warranty runs out, as hopefully it will fix this issue.

It's a shame that a brilliant technical design is let down by something as simple as a bad strap design.

Unfortunately my hubby bought it straight from Fitbit online so I am out of
luck there. I did purchase a silicone sleeve from Amazon.... Should arrive
tomorrow and am hoping it improves the look..... It works great Just looks
horrible.

I've had one with a screen that wouldn't get off the sync logo so they replaced that one then that ones strap bubbled and came apart so they replaced that then the next one screen stopped working so they replaced that and now this ones bubbling again - I've had it since May 2016  - I love Fitbit but the surge is rediculous at breaking 😡😡
