Was going to ask the same question.
There is no 'treadmill' choice for exercises, and when I enter 'walk' as an exercise choice the GPS shows my walk to the turntable to flip the record 🙂 Surge still records steps though.
When I simply do treadmill without entering anything, it 'reports' the exercise as 'elliptical' AND generously grants me extra flights climbed.
I do not understand why treadmill walk/run isn't an activity choice..surely there are thousands of us in cold places who do the bulk of walking on a treadmill.

How do I change my exercise from elliptical to exercise as I only jogged in place. why is Surge choosing my exercise? How do i designate which exercise I am doing?
@ppalmerazFitbit added a SmartTrack feature to the Surge and Charge HR a few weeks ago. You can look at the types of exercise they are SmartTracking here. https://www.fitbit.com/settings/device
I have set my time option to 10 minutes, others have set some of theirs to 90 minutes so it doesn't show the results. 90 minutes is the maximum or you can set some to ignore.
Ads I have posted elsewhere it does a fair job of interpreting body movement and when you think jogging in place could be seen as Elliptical that would be expected.
I have found the calories fairly accurate for its interpretation

@ppalmeraz You can create an Activity Log record by clicking on the Large Stopwatch and enter the description and the times and that will document and give you the one minute graphs for the activity.
Click on the small stopwatch near the description for the graphs.
