Surge heart rate monitor

So I bought my surge just a few days before christmas, and have been messing around with the location of it to try to get the most accurate heart rate as I can from it. I guess to start off, let me give a little bit of back ground on me. I have tachycardia, which basically means my heart beats to fast at rest. So I take some medicine for it, to lower my rate down to normal. I am also taking minoxidil, I began going bald when I was 18, and still in high school (I'm 31 one now). I've been taking minoxidil for about a yr now. For those that don't know, when you take minoxidil it doesn't just target you're head, it causes you to grow hair all over. So now on to the point of all this. I know in the manual it says during normal use to wear it about a finger width about your wrist bone, and while exercising about 2-3 fingers above. Doing this I couldn't get an accurate heart rate reading from the surge while I was at the gym. Wondering if the excess in hair I have grown in my arms was causing a problem, I trimmed the hair down on them, and still had accurcy issue's with the monitor the time at the gym. Finally during my third gym session, toward the end, I flipped it around so that the watch face was on the underside of the wrist. So that the monitor sat up against the artery there where you normally check for your heart rate. So my question is....is this how it is most commonly worn by other's, or does it read accuratly for you with the watch face being on top of your arm. I'm still wondering if maybe my arm hair is to thick even after trimming, or if that has any effect at all. With having tachycardia, I would just like to make sure I can monitor my heart rate as well aspossible at the gym, to make sure I don't push it to hard, since I like to do a lot of heavy weight lifting, and do HIIT with what cardio I do. Even if it's not 100% accurate, I'm ok with that. Just want to make sure it is as close as possible. How I know it was off, is because it would read like 104, while the heart rate monitor on the machine would read like 150, and knowing how much I was pushing, and with it being toward the end 104 couldn't be right.

P.S. For those that cringing about me talking about being more hairy because of the pill, I am looking into getting a at home laser hair removal kit. So don't cringe to much, lol.

Couple of things for consideration...First and foremost have you talked to your physician about minoxidil use with your tachycardia? If not, I would, as prominent tachycardia occurs with the use of minoxidil but that is a discussion you should have with your physician regarding your tachycardia and your meds whether it be a Beta or calcium channel blocker and whatever else you may be using concurrently.

I trim the hair on my arms with a small scissor for the very reason you stated. It has helped considerably and I have done a few comparative analytics and it has helped. Best of luck to you!

Yeah, the medicine I take for the tachycardia, and minoxidil are both prescribed by him. Didn't start taking the minoxidil, until after having the right dose of medicine of the tachycardia figured out. So everything should be figured out alright there. Thank you for the reply. I may need to trim down the air a little more then.
