Surge loosing BPM on Cybex treadmills

Hello dear friends

I got my Surge from my wife this christmas and training and daily activities got a lot more fun. However I´ve been struggling with a problem that only occurs on treadmills.

I keep loosing the pulse monitoring on treadmill runs, I suspect that it has something to do with the bluetooth on both treadmill and tracker colliding or something similar?

Note that this NEVER occurs on weight training, workout, spinning or free running. Also my wife have the exact same problem with her Charge HR.

Yes, I have turned of and on again countless times and the tracker has the newest firmware.

Hope some devs have some answers.

Love from Norway

Thanks for popping by the forums @Brygfjeld! Thanks a million for your feedback, this is very interesting. Your question caught my attention, since as you know Fitbit Surge has Bluetooth integrated to synchronized data with other devices; Bluetooth networking transmits data via low-power radio waves. But Heart Rate is tracked by PurePulse LED lights, these are on the visible spectrum and they are not taken from the Bluetooth. So, using your Surge on this specific type of treadmill shouldn't be an issue.

You did a great job turning off your Surge. I'd advice trying the restart a couple of times in a row and then try these steps:

  1. Turn off the HR option on the Surge and Force sync your Surge
  2. Turn it back on with the option "On instead of "Auto"  and Force sync your Surge again

Also take a look of these wearing tips that will improve your HR readings. I'd appreciate if you come back after you test it out, to keep checking with you this unusual behavior of your Surge.

Please keep me posted!

Thank you Yojana for your reply.

I have now tried this and it seems to work. First I did an hour of weight training today and the tracker literally did not skip a beat. However when I started my treadmill run it lost the BPM once and that was it, it was stable the rest of my 5k run.

Thank you for your help and I will call this case solved.

I know this is the Surge forum but if you could give me a hint to solve the same problem on my wife´s Charge HR it would be great. Can you turn off the HR monitor?

Hi @Brygfjeld! Lovely to see you here again! You're very welcome. Please keep an eye on your Surge for your next run in a treadmill, just to make sure it is working fine! Smiley Very Happy

In regards of your wife's Charge HR, you can turn off the HR monitor in her phone; on the Fitbit App > Account > Charge HR > Heart Rate > Off. You can use the "Auto" option, which means that when she takes it off the HR will turn off automatically too.

I'll be around in case that you need anything else! Cat Happy
