@FFatquhar Welcome to the Fitbit Community! I recommend to follow these syncing troubleshooting steps to fix that problem. It should work normally after doing that. Your alarms will be set once the tracker syncs.
Let me know how it goes!

Hi - Hope you've been able to sort this out. I faced this issue recently. My only suggestion would be to try and avoid resetting the watch as you might lose data. See if you can sync through a PC and the dongle for instance--it may take a while. The reason I say this is because I couldn't get the Surge to sync after a recent marathon. Eventually, I managed to sync it through the PC and the wifi dongle but I lost all the run data. I assume this is because I may have reset the Surge too many times because I distinctly remember the display showing me average pace, heart rate, calories etc. during and just after the run. (It's another matter that the watch showed the distance to be 45 km rather than 42 km but inaccuracy's a different thread.)

I have the Surge for 12 months and over the last few weeks it has become impossible to sync. In my environment the Charge HR, Fitbit One and Zip all sync perfectly via Fitbit Connect force sync and auto sync.
The environment is large house 5 TV's 4 adults and only my Fitbit's.
Signals are WiFi, ChromeCast and Android, 5 computers Windows 7 and XP
The only way I can sync the Surge is to go outside into our street, away from the internal environment , pair the Surge to the Android and it finds it immediately. After I have done that and come back inside it syncs to the Sony Z1 Android phone. The Fitbit Connect still says there are multiple devices and there are no active Fitbits near the dongle.
Bring the Fitbit One and the Charge HR near the dongle when I click on Fitbit Connect it now prompts me for the email address for the login. Results
Surge can't be found - multiple devices. The Fitbit One and Charge HR find and sync perfectly with the email login. AND. the Fitbit One is very low on battery.
So all of that points to some weakness in the Surge and of course I'm just out of 12 months !!!!
Now the next test was to unpair via the computer and the Dongle found the Surge immediately when I connected as an existing user and entered the 4 digit code. It was found with all of the other devices switched on and within a few inches. Then, back to the no sync with multiple devices message.
Turn off the Surge and the Charge HR syncs automatically and Forced sync with the Fitbit One in close proximity.
Total confusion here but I will use the Surge as a watch and step counter to compare with the Charge HR, Fitbit One, Zip and Ultra, yes the Ultra has just had ity's 4th birthday, superglued 4 times and is still as reliable as ever. I wear all 4 (not the Surge) every day and they all auto sync as required.
I never had these issues with Surge until recently and it seems to couincide with the software upgrades or maybe it doesn't like my Android pphone, but that is the same phone I have had for 4 years and as you can see from my post I have the latest of everything updated.
