Surge not recognising outdoor cycles

Hi there,
I cycle to and from work. My surge does not consistently recognise this as activity as a cycle. Today for example, it recorded my cycle home from work as an outdoor cycle. My cycle to work was recorded as 'active minutes' but not as a cycle. Yesterday it missed all my cycling.

Any ideas why this is? is it because I'm cycling very slowly, and not getting my heart rate up enough?

Thanks in advance!

Hey,

Are you telling it you are cycling?  Or just letting it do it automatically?

There is a set of options that after a set time will start recording the things.  I found them today, they are set to 15mins as standard, if you are riding a short distance or going slowly, maybe try changing the time down to 10 mins.

I hope it helps, Clay

Hey, thanks for reply!
yes i have been letting it identify rides automatically. I have it set for 10 minutes and all my rides are 30 minutes at least so that shouldnt be the issue.
Mmm! Not sure what the issue is 😞

The heart rate may be a factor since the device needs a trigger to identify that you're performing an activity and heart rate is all it has access to if you're not walking.

Using the dedicated Cycling mode of the Surge will give you a better result in any cae since it uses GPS for a better position and speed estimation. You would have to remember to start and stop that manually though.

Today picked up only 16 mins! will try and wear band much tighter tomorrow to see if that helps with maintaining the heart rate. I do find in spin classes that I get so sweaty I loose the connection ... I'm not that sweaty when cycling to work though! I'll let you know if that helps. Cheers guys.
