Surge not recording all steps

My surge seems to stick randomly and can be stuck on that amount of steps for a few minutes before starting to recount.Having used other tracking and gps devices over the last few walks as well as Fitbit Ive found the Fitbit is consistently losing around 3000 steps over a 10 /13 mile walk.

can anyone offer any advice?

Did you already try restarting your tracker a few times as explained in this article?
