I spent 45 minutes cutting my grass this morning and my Surge recorded the activity as riding my bike.  How did this happen and how can I correct it?

If it came from Smart track then use the Pencil next to the record and search for what you need to change it

Tried to get this thing to do a somewhat accurate step count but can't even get it close.  Did a step count of 50 steps.  It never moved one step.  A minute later I checked it, and it jumped over 1,300 steps.  Tried doing the non-dominate hand.  The other day it said I did my first 10,000 step day and there is absolutely no way I did 10,000 steps.  The only thing that seems to be accurate is the watch and heart rate monitor.  I have compared it to an elliptical trainer and it is within 5 beats per minute consistently.  Mowed the grass the other day and it takes about 30 minutes.  Said I burned almost 5,000 calories.  I work out on an elliptical trainer pretty hard and only burn around 500 or so calories.  Total disappointment for $250 knowing that as soon as the band breaks the watch is worthless.  Never again....l

What it did on mine was to record hours and hours of "outdoor bike" when I didn't do any activities AT ALL.  How could that happen?

It's nice to see you around the Community @RetiredFE @ilse49, hope you're doing great! I agree with @WendyB, this seems to be SmartTrack that is recognizing those activities.

As you may know, the SmartTrack feature available on Fitbit Alta, Fitbit Blaze, Fitbit Surge, and Fitbit Charge HR automatically recognizes and records select exercises to ensure you get credit for your most active moments of the day.

By default, SmartTrack recognizes an exercise that lasts at least 15 minutes. You can lower this setting to 10 minutes, or increase it as high as 90 minutes. For example if you only want SmartTrack to detect your longer walks, you might change your duration settings to a 30-minute minimum.

You can stop your tracker from trying to auto-recognize one or more exercise types. You may want to do this if SmartTrack sometimes mistakes your movements. For example, if Elliptical workouts appear in your exercise history and you don't use an elliptical machine, turn off auto-recognition (SmartTrack) for Elliptical.

Fitbit.com Dashboard

  1. Log into your fitbit.com dashboard and click the gear icon in the top right corner.
  2. Click Settings > Devices. If you have more than one tracker, choose the one that supports SmartTrack.
  3. Find and modify the option for automatically recorded exercises.

Fitbit App for iOS

  1. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap the Exercise tile. This is the tile that says “Track exercise,” or, if you already tracked an exercise, shows the exercise type and information.
  2. Tap the gear icon (not the stopwatch) in the top right corner. Tap the exercise you're looking for and turn off the auto-recognition setting.

Fitbit App for Android

  1. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap the Exercise tile. This is the tile that says “Track exercise” or if you already tracked an exercise, shows the exercise type and information.
  2. Tap the gear icon in the top right corner. Tap the exercise you're looking for and turn off the auto-recognition setting.

Fitbit App for Windows

  1. On the Fitbit app dashboard, open the Exercise tile. This is the tile that says “Track exercise,” or, if you already tracked an exercise, shows the exercise type and information.
  2. Tap or click the gear icon at the bottom. Find the exercise you're looking for and turn off the auto-recognition setting.

Happy stepping!
