Hey everyone,
I bought a fitbit surge a couple days ago. I didn't wear it to sleep last night and left it on my desk for when I woke up. When I woke up and put it on, it said I already had 1002 steps and 640 calories burned...
Can anyone help me with this issue? I want to be able to reset the tracker for the day if that's possible.
Update: I haven't wore the Surge all day and i'm still at 1,002 step but now i'm over 1,200 calories.
Thank you!

Hello @Myles101,
Welcome to the community!
First, let's address the calorie burn. Fitbit takes into account your BMR when reporting your caloric burn. You can see it more clearly when you look at your activities page and click on "calories burned". Effectively, you'll burn calories by merely breathing and living. Fitbit takes that into account. It's a function of your stats (gender, age, height and weight)... and yes, this will accumulate over the course of the day. This is normal.
Second, I can think of two reasons why you might have steps upon waking:
If you look at your activity page and look at when those steps occured, you may get a better idea what may have caused it.
Though you may enter a 'Driving' activity for that duration to cancel those steps, my advice would be to just continue wearing it and let it go. 1000 steps may seem like a lot right now, but it's only 10% of (the default) daily goal. If you maintain 10k steps per day, you'll have 1 million steps in just over three months; 1000 steps is a drop in the bucket.
I hope this helps.
