Surge still syncing with phone despite bluetooth and other items turned off

I'm on my third Surge due to the known battery draining issue.  I have a Galaxy S5 and have deleted the bluetooth connection for my surge.  I've also turned off "always connected" and "all day sync".  I've noticed that when I open the app to manually sync my surge, it says that it was last synced at a time when I know the app was not open.  Can anyone tell me if there is another component that I need to turn off to keep this from happening?  I only want it to sync when I open the app.

On a side note, I'm not having any better luck with this unit than I did with the other two.  I barely get 48 hours out of a full battery charge.  Once I know that the one I sent back has been received, I'll call customer service yet again.  I love this product, but having to charge it every day is really a drag.

It's quite possibly not syncing via your phone. A Fitbit tracker will sync via any computer with with Fitbit connect running and a dongle installed so it could be transferring data via someone else's link to the server. If that's the case the there's very little you can do about it.
