Has anyone switched from the Surge to the Ionic and if so can you tell how accurate the heart is? My surge is good if I'm running but really bad when circuit training.

Hey @Kbrown831, thanks for posting your question around! We're very happy with our new Fitbit Ionic.
This is a very extensive topic, heart rate reading varies depending on several factors like movement, temperature, humidity, stress level, physical body position, caffeine intake, and medication. Have you review our information and tips for heart rate accuracy of your Fitbit.
PurePulse provides better overall heart rate tracking than cardio machines or chest straps since it tracks your heart rate day and night, you can read more information about how Fitbit has evolved HR readings over the years until Fitbit Ionic (click on "Explore the Technology.)
Hope this helps!

I made the switch and with the exception of the first few minutes of most runs, the heart rate monitor appears to be far more accurate. About the first few minute issue, it has been widely reported the Heart Rate graphs for exercise show an unnatural spike in heart rate for the first few minutes of said exercise. I have no idea why this is, but I'm thinking four out of five of my runs show the spike before settling down to more natural readings.
And before you ask, no, I do not go out of the gate at a high pace; my first two miles were up around ten minutes per. 🙂
